The "Give Me A Break" Respite Fund is intended to provide respite funds for families and individuals with autism. The Autism Society of Colorado (ASC) believes that parents or other care providers are the best resource for their children. As such, a regular break from their day-to-day duties is essential to their ability to provide long-term care. ASC asks that any respite funds awarded be used for respite and not for additional therapies for your child, etc. ASC awards (at least) two respite grants per month. Applicants must be ASC members to qualify for an award. Applications are processed in the order they are received and qualifying applications retain their place until the award is granted.
The fund has been made possible again this year through grants
awarded to ASC from Magic Moments, the Kenneth King Foundation,
and other donations. The ASC Board
of Directors feels that by supporting this project we
are making a valuable contribution to our mission, which is,
in part, to increase positive options for all people with
autism and their families.
Any ASC member is invited to apply. Applicants who are not
members will have one year’s individual membership dues
deducted from the grant award.
****** ASC "Give
Me A Break" Respite Fund Update ******
The Autism Society of Colorado continues to
seek grants and private donations for this Fund, however,
the current status as of
January 22, 2008
, is that no funds are available for this program. All applications
are retained on file in the order in which they were received
— regardless of their date of submission — until
we are able to award a financial grant to the applying family.

The committee appointed to administer these
funds will review the applications received and award at least
two (2), $150.00 grants each month. Grants will be mailed
to recipients by the 15th of the following month. You need
send only one application per year, as it will remain actively
under consideration for the balance of the year.
We request that the selected applicant write us a brief letter describing how the funds were used and how they helped your family. These letters are a vital part of how ASC seeks grants and private donations for this fund. Any individual letter may be used anonymously for such purposes unless otherwise specifically stated in the letter. Making such a statement will not affect decisions to award grants in the future.
