Currently ASC’s programs department offers information and referral (I&R) for services, providers and supports that are directly related to the needs of the Autism Community. Examples of information in the large database ASC updates regularly are - autism treatment centers and providers, advocacy and support groups, health insurance and other payer sources, and state and federal legislation documents such as bills and fact sheets. To access I&R personnel by email go to support@autismcolorado.org; by phone 720-214-0794 x 21.

ASC also provides educational events and training.  Monthly sessions, in the ABC’s of Autism Series, alternate between a guest speaker(s) one month and facilitated support group alternate months.  “Guest speaker night” welcomes participants to hear persons with expertise in autism or something related to the needs of the population impacted by it.  Please contact Bridget at bridget@autismcolorado.org for content topics for these sessions.  Her phone extension is 10.

Training is conducted for individuals who want to become respite care providers or to have training in working with children/youth with behavioral disorders for increasing their skill as childcare providers.  The two training programs that address training are the Give Me a Break Respite Care Program and the Competent Care for Challenging Children Program.  Contact Lorri Park for more information.lorri@autismcolorado.org Phone extension – 11

ASC also does 60-minute information sessions called Autism Answers.  Although most of these presentations (which include a complimentary lunch) are done at the ASC office conference room, groups may request the informative “introduction to the world of autism spectrum disorders”

presentation be done in other settings ( like employment, classroom, or association).  ASC staff members also present frequently at conferences and similar educational events.

ASC serves disability public policy efforts by representing the needs and views of individuals and families impacted by autism.  Its public policy committee provides direct consultative and strategic direction for current legislative initiatives and the implementation of policies and procedures.  ASC has spearheaded 15 pieces of successful legislation, generating upwards of five million dollars for the state’s children with special needs.  For information about public policy and/or legislative initiatives contact Betty Lehman. betty@autismcolorado.org
